My longtime friend runs a soup kitchen. Earlier today she got official word, which was later retracted, saying there would be no SNAP benefits issued in November. Again it was retracted, but it’s terrifying that we are even this close to that being a possibility. While I am not a SNAP user, many of my neighbors in Oak Park are. A lot of people are already living close to the bone. Asks for emergency food and bottle deposits have become more and more common in our local Freecycle networks. People need help and they need food. Please do whatever you can to fight for SNAP. People deserve to eat. The possibility of losing SNAP is not right.
