Reject undermining marriage equality – protect LGBTQ+ civil rights

To: Sen. Cruz, Pres. Trump, Rep. Crockett, Sen. Cornyn

From: A verified voter in Dallas, TX

February 26

Marriage equality is a constitutionally protected right in the United States. The Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges affirmed that same-sex couples have the fundamental right to marry. Attempting to overturn this decision would be a violation of the rights and liberties of LGBTQ+ Americans. We must uphold the principles of equality and non-discrimination enshrined in our laws. While individuals may hold personal beliefs, legislation should not infringe upon the civil rights of citizens based on sexual orientation. I urge you to reject any resolution seeking to undermine the legal precedent of marriage equality and instead focus efforts on protecting the rights and dignity of all Michigan residents.
