Algorithms of Atrocity: AI Automates War Crimes
While the Pentagon aggressively pushes artificial intelligence onto the battlefield, seasoned military leaders urge extreme caution. They recognize reality: deploying autonomous systems without strict legislative guardrails is a recipe for disaster.
When technology moves faster than human judgment, the risk of catastrophic error skyrockets. This danger is amplified under Hegseth/Trump leadership, which lacks both ethical restraint and sound judgment. When leaders disregard established international norms and show a willingness to overlook or dismiss unlawful actions, putting AI-driven lethality in their hands removes the vital friction required to prevent atrocities.
We have already witnessed how failures in accountability have lead to American war crimes. If the deployment of battlefield AI remains unregulated, algorithms will dictate life-and-death decisions, and ethical failures at the top will seamlessly translate into automated slaughter on the ground.
As my representative, you must intervene. Congress must step in immediately to mandate strict human-in-the-loop constraints, clear accountability metrics, and firm ethical guardrails for military AI.
