Oppose the Republican Budget and Protect Medicaid Coverage

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Barrett

From: A constituent in Hartland, MI

May 7

I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose the Republican budget proposals that would cut Medicaid funding and jeopardize health coverage for millions of Americans. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office recently released an analysis showing just how devastating these proposals would be. Reducing federal Medicaid payments in states that expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act could lead to 5.5 million people losing their coverage. Capping federal Medicaid funding could result in another 3.3 million people being cut off. Repealing Biden-era enrollment protections would strip coverage from 2.3 million individuals. Additionally, restricting the use of state provider taxes, a critical tool states use to finance Medicaid, could impact as many as 8.6 million people. These are not just numbers. They represent real people. Our neighbors, family members, and friends who rely on Medicaid for vital healthcare. Cutting off access to care for millions in the name of budget savings is cruel, shortsighted, and deeply harmful. I urge you to reject these proposals and stand up for the health and well-being of your constituents. Please protect Medicaid and the millions of lives it supports.
