I am writing to urge you to take action to protect workers' rights and tackle the growing problem of corporate monopolies. Specifically, I ask that you prioritize policies that stop union-busting and instead focus on breaking up monopolistic corporations, which would benefit both workers and the economy. Unions play a critical role in ensuring workers can negotiate for fair wages and benefits. Studies show union workers earn, on average, 11.2% more than non-union workers, contributing to a stronger middle class and reducing income inequality. Union-busting undermines these gains and harms the broader economy by lowering wages, reducing benefits, and eroding workers' rights. Strong unions lead to higher consumer spending and economic growth, as seen in past decades when union membership was higher and wages were more equitable. Meanwhile, monopolies are increasing in sectors like tech, healthcare, and agriculture, contributing to higher prices and worsening inflation. A lack of competition allows corporations to artificially inflate prices, hurting consumers and driving inflation. A recent Roosevelt Institute study directly links rising corporate consolidation with increased inflation in food, fuel, and healthcare. Monopolies also depress wages, as fewer employers leave workers with less bargaining power. History proves that breaking up monopolies spurs innovation, lowers prices, and benefits the economy. For example, the breakup of Standard Oil in 1911 led to lower oil prices and increased competition. Today, addressing monopolistic power can combat inflation and boost wages by encouraging more competition. In contrast, union-busting harms workers and depresses wages. Research from Princeton University demonstrates a clear link between the decline of unions and rising income inequality, as well as stagnant wages that fail to keep up with inflation. Workers need unions to ensure they are fairly compensated, especially during times of rising costs. To address these issues, I urge you to: Support the PRO Act to protect workers' rights to unionize. Modernize antitrust laws to break up monopolies that harm competition and contribute to inflation. Increase penalties for union-busting to protect workers' ability to bargain for better wages and working conditions. Promote worker ownership and small businesses to democratize wealth and reduce corporate consolidation. Prioritizing monopoly-busting over union-busting is essential for reducing inflation, boosting wages, and creating a fairer economy. I strongly urge you to take these actions to protect workers and ensure economic growth benefits everyone. Thank you for your attention to these critical issues. I look forward to hearing how you plan to address them.
