As a proud New Yorker, I am outraged and deeply saddened by reports that Veterans Day ceremonies at Gerald BH Solomon will be canceled because of the government shutdown. These ceremonies are sacred — they are moments for our communities to honor the brave men and women who risked everything to protect our freedoms.
It is unacceptable that our veterans, who have already given so much, are being disrespected by political inaction. I urge you — as leaders representing New York — to come together, put partisanship aside, and ensure that these ceremonies go forward. Our veterans deserve nothing less than a nation that keeps its promises and honors its heroes, even in difficult times.
Veterans answered the call to serve our country. It’s time for our elected officials to answer the call to serve them.
