I’m calling on you to support increased funding for the Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP) within the congressionally directed medical research program. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, yet federal research funding remains far below the need. The House Appropriations Committee has approved $20 million for LCRP and fiscal year 2027, which is below the 2024 funding level. Please increase the budget to $60 million in 2027. This program support supports essential research into lung cancer biology, treatment and prevention, particularly for veterans and military populations at elevated risk. A dear friend with stage four lung cancer alerted me to this issue. It’s important. Thank you.
