The message of the midterms is clear. Actions to counter the corruption and incompetence of the current administration are expected. Congress can end the war in Iran, undue the damage to funding for science, hold executive officers accountable for their unlawful and unethical behavior, restore voting rights, women’s rights, protect transgender citizens, reform the Supreme Court, provide healthcare and immigration reform. Lots of work that won’t happen quickly or easily. But what can’t happen is a return to business as usual. Compromise with the radicals in the current government cannot be on the table. We expect the new congress to step up to the challenges presented by the chaos the current regime has foisted on the world. Get ready to work. No excuses.
