Provide group discharge for Argosy university

To: Rep. Castor, Sen. Scott, Pres. Biden, Sen. Rubio

From: A constituent in Saint Petersburg, FL

January 16

I am writing to thank you for your continued commitment to providing relief for student loan borrowers who have been harmed by fraudulent practices, particularly those impacted by institutions like Ashford University. Your administration’s decision to approve $4.5 billion in loan discharges for over 260,000 borrowers is a significant and much-needed step in rectifying the wrongs committed by predatory for-profit schools. As a former student of Argosy University, I, too, was deceived by promises that ultimately led to educational and financial hardship. Like Ashford, Argosy misrepresented the value of its degrees, the programs’ accreditation, and the time it would take to complete coursework. Despite these promises, many students, including myself, found that the education we received did not lead to the career opportunities we were promised, nor did it equip us with the qualifications necessary to pursue our intended professions. The Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to provide targeted relief for those harmed by deceptive educational practices offer hope for students like me. However, there are still many of us, including former students of Argosy University, who have not received the full relief we deserve. As the government continues to hold schools accountable for their actions, I respectfully urge you to extend these discharges to include students of Argosy University and other defrauded borrowers who are still bearing the weight of predatory loans. These institutions operated with deceptive recruiting tactics, overpromising and underdelivering on critical educational outcomes. Thousands of students, including those who attended Argosy University, were misled about the cost of attendance, the transferability of credits, and the career opportunities that would follow. As a result, many of us are left with significant debt. I am hopeful that your administration will continue to provide the necessary relief to all borrowers who were harmed by these deceptive practices. I appreciate the steps already taken, but I respectfully request that you ensure all defrauded students, including those who attended Argosy University, are granted the same support and loan forgiveness. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued dedication to the well-being of students across the nation. I look forward to seeing further actions that will bring justice to all who have been affected by these institutions' fraudulent practices.
