Immediate Impeachment Inquiries Required to Restore Checks and Balances
To: Rep. Velázquez
From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY
January 13
Dear Representative,
I am writing as a constituent to demand immediate action by the House of Representatives to enforce constitutional checks and balances that are now visibly failing.
The executive branch has demonstrated that it will not hold itself accountable.
The Department of Justice Civil Rights Division’s refusal to investigate the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE officer—despite the criminal section’s normal role in investigating fatal law-enforcement use of force—represents a serious breakdown in the rule of law. This decision has been accompanied by resignations of senior civil rights prosecutors and interference with state-level investigative access.
When the executive branch shields itself from investigation, the Constitution assigns responsibility to the House of Representatives.
Impeachment exists for precisely this moment.
I am calling for:
• Immediate impeachment inquiries into DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon
• Subpoenas for documents, communications, and sworn testimony
• Public hearings and depositions to establish a factual record
• Preservation and public release of investigative findings
Impeachment inquiries are not a partisan act. They are the lawful mechanism for restoring accountability when executive officials fail to faithfully execute the law or obstruct oversight.
Failure to act now sends a clear signal that executive officials are effectively above the law.
Please provide a direct response addressing the following:
1. Will you support immediate impeachment inquiries?
2. What oversight actions are currently underway?
3. What timeline should the public expect for hearings or subpoenas?
A functioning democracy cannot exist without enforcement of the law. Delay and silence are not neutral choices.
I expect a substantive response.
