Mandate Sustainability Standards for AI Data Centers

To: Rep. Casar, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Manor, TX

August 4

Pass legislation requiring all AI data centers operating in this country to meet strict sustainability standards, and shut down those that refuse to comply. This isn't a fringe demand. Infomaniak's Euria AI assistant runs entirely on renewable energy, wastes zero water, and feeds waste heat back into Geneva's district heating network, preventing roughly 3,600 tonnes of CO₂ emissions from natural gas per year. That same infrastructure heats 6,000 homes in winter. If one Swiss cloud provider can do this, there is no excuse for the rest of the industry not to. Right now, most AI data centers are energy black holes with no accountability for their environmental footprint. We have the proof that a different model works. Mandate renewable energy use, prohibit wasteful water cooling where alternatives exist, and require waste heat recovery where feasible. Set a compliance deadline, and pull the operating licenses of facilities that don't meet it. The technology exists. What's missing is the political will to demand it.
