The ongoing conflict in Ukraine demands urgent action to support the besieged nation in defending itself against Russian aggression. Lifting restrictions on the range and use of Western-supplied weapons would empower Ukraine's forces to strike strategic targets within Russia, disrupting the invading military's operations and logistics. This decisive measure could hasten an end to the war on more favorable terms for Ukraine. While concerns over potential escalation are understandable, Russia's indiscriminate attacks on civilian populations demonstrate a blatant disregard for international norms. Enabling Ukraine to project force into Russian territory may prompt restraint from Moscow and force serious negotiations. The moral imperative to aid Ukraine's self-defense should take precedence. The statements from the Finnish and Estonian foreign ministers highlight a growing consensus that overly restrictive arms limitations undermine Ukraine's ability to repel the invasion. I urge our leaders to heed these calls and provide Ukraine the military means to decisively counter Russian forces, secure its sovereignty, and bring about a just resolution to this unconscionable conflict.
