I urge you to reconsider the dismissal of over 580 NOAA employees, including many skilled meteorologists and scientists. These layoffs pose a grave threat to weather forecasting accuracy, disaster preparedness, and public safety across the nation, particularly as the U.S. heads into tornado season with hurricane season soon after. Maintaining a well-staffed and experienced workforce at NOAA is crucial for tracking severe weather events like hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires, as well as monitoring long-term climate patterns. Cutting personnel who play vital roles in data analysis, satellite operations, and risk assessments will inevitably degrade NOAA's ability to fulfill its mission of protecting American lives and property, putting human lives at risk during dangerous weather events. I implore you to prioritize the well-being of our citizens over short-sighted cost-cutting measures that endanger our preparedness for natural disasters and environmental challenges. Please take immediate action to reinstate these dedicated public servants and ensure NOAA remains fully equipped to safeguard our communities.
