Mike Johnson just called a HOUSE RECESS until NOVEMBER 9th.
This is an affront to democracy and fair process. It deprives us of representation and deliberation by our elected representatives in the House. It is also an abuse of the speaker's role. And it gives a middle finger to all who have to show up to work every day. Why are our representatives being paid to NOT do their jobs? I am outraged and I I hope you are too.
The reason for this closure? It's a partisan ploy to aid the re-election chances of the GOP house reps who would be disadvantaged by having g to defend their votes on controversial matters, like the impeachment charges brought against Pete Hegseth by Thomas Massie. Hegseth amply deserves impeachment: he is undermining safety of our forces and military leadership. Hegesth is breaking the defense budget, he is breaking international law, he is squandering resources and jeopardising our national safety.
I am outraged that Speaker Johnson has taken the step of calling a recess when the House should be working.
I am outraged by Johnson's ability to block oversight and legislation. I am outraged that he is hellbent on cutting access to support like SNAP, social security, and the ability to pay for medical care, even as all house members play hookey from school for more than a month. I ask you to speak out against this.
I ask House members to forgo their salaries as long as this truancy continues. I ask the senate to hold hearings on both Mitch McConnell's extended absence and on Mike Johnson's and to ensure that a future congress will legislate to prevent such abuses in the future.
The damage caused by Hegseth will continue until he is checked and removed. Please use all the tools at hand including defunding, subpoenas, and investigations to curb Hegseth's harm.
