Drop the charges against Wilber Rafael Garces Perez immediately. This man was working a DoorDash shift when ICE agents pulled him over, shot him in the torso, and then charged him with assault. A man fleeing in fear from armed agents who ultimately shot him does not belong in a federal courtroom facing 20 years in prison. These charges exist to intimidate, not to deliver justice. This is the second ICE shooting in Texas in just a few months. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was killed by ICE agents in Houston in July. Now Garces Perez sits in ICE custody after being hospitalized from a gunshot wound. The pattern is undeniable. ICE operates with unchecked aggression, and Congress keeps funding it. That has to stop. Defund ICE, release the people held in detention, and let them return home. Your constituents are watching how you respond to this.
