I am writing to urge you to oppose President Trump's dangerous abandonment of the Great Power Competition framework and to support impeachment proceedings based on his betrayal of American national security interests. Trump's second administration is dismantling a decade of bipartisan consensus that recognized China's ambition to overtake the United States and Russia's efforts to undermine it. His new National Security Strategy rejects the principle that America should maintain global leadership, instead arguing that other countries' affairs only matter if they directly threaten us. This represents a fundamental abdication of American values and strategic interests. The evidence of this policy disaster is overwhelming. After his first administration declared genocide in Xinjiang, blacklisted Huawei, and moved to ban TikTok, Trump has now become what observers call the biggest China dove in Washington. He backed off sanctions over the Salt Typhoon cyber intrusions to protect a trade deal. He sided with Beijing over Japan on Taiwan. He announced plans to visit Beijing in April with Xi making a return trip in 2026. Most alarmingly, he lifted the ban on exports of Nvidia's H200 chips to China, directly strengthening their artificial intelligence capabilities. On Russia, Trump's envoys are pressuring Ukraine to cede the entire Donbas region and pursuing a 28-point peace plan that includes long-term economic cooperation on energy, infrastructure, AI, data centers, and rare earths. He wants to bring Russia back into the G7 despite its illegal annexation of Crimea and ongoing war crimes in Ukraine. His National Security Strategy is notably less hostile to Russia than to the European Union, our actual allies. This is not dealmaking. This is appeasement of authoritarian regimes actively hostile to American interests and democratic values. Trump is legitimizing territorial conquest, enabling human rights abuses, and weakening the alliances that have maintained global stability for decades. I urge you to publicly oppose this foreign policy reversal and support impeachment proceedings. The President is failing his constitutional duty to protect American security.
