Uphold religious freedom and separation of church and state

To: Rep. James, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A verified voter in Eastpointe, MI

April 25

I firmly oppose any initiative that aims to promote or legislate one specific religion over others, as it violates the principles of freedom of religion and separation of church and state enshrined in the First Amendment. Efforts to elevate a particular faith as a national belief system disregard the incredible diversity of spiritual traditions that have shaped our nation's identity. Mandating adherence to any religion threatens to erode the very freedoms that protect every American's right to worship according to their personal beliefs—or choose not to practice religion at all—without fear of persecution or indoctrination. Such governmental overreach into matters of faith risks creating an environment of suppression and retribution against those who do not conform. I urge a reexamination of any policies or task forces that undermine our constitutionally protected religious liberties and our nation's legacy of pluralism.
