I am an airline pilot for a major U.S. carrier, and I strongly urge you to support the Aviation Medication Transparency Act. For my 37 years in aviation, dealing with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aeromedical Branch, it has been a crapshoot when being prescribed a medication by a medical practitioner. There has not been a complete list of approved medications, so treatment for a fairly benign medical condition could become temporarily or permanently disqualifying, potentially ending a pilot’s career. While some common medications have been on an approved list, others were left as unknowns until the FAA rules after the fact.
