Oppose H.R. 5505 and the Anti-Trans Amendment to H.R. 2555

To: Rep. Walberg, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

June 25

Vote no on H.R. 5505 and strip the anti-trans amendment from H.R. 2555. These bills don't protect religious liberty or free association — they carve out legal cover for student groups to discriminate against LGBTQ+ students while still receiving federal funding. You were sent to Congress to make people's lives better, not to make them harder for minorities. H.R. 5505 would force public universities to fund and recognize student organizations that explicitly bar LGBTQ+ students from membership or leadership. The amendment to H.R. 2555 defines "sex" as biological, which directly targets transgender students and exposes them to housing restrictions, loss of scholarships, and denial of recommendation letters. Rep. Mark Takano put it plainly: this is a bill that "would require minority students to subsidize their own discrimination." That's not a values debate — that's institutional cruelty backed by federal dollars. Students on campuses across this country deserve to learn in environments where they are not legally excluded or punished for who they are. Block these bills.
