The Republican bill passed in the House would make devastating cuts to vital programs that millions of Americans rely on. It proposes slashing $267 billion from SNAP food assistance for over 42 million low-income individuals and families, as well as nearly $700 billion from federal Medicaid funding. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, these Medicaid cuts could strip health insurance coverage from up to 15 million people. Furthermore, the bill increases the federal deficit by a staggering $3.8 trillion while extending tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthy. This represents an unconscionable transfer of resources away from those most in need toward the already well-off. I urge you to reject this cruel and regressive legislation that will increase poverty, hunger, and lack of healthcare access for our most vulnerable citizens. Instead, we should be working to strengthen the social safety net and promote policies that create economic opportunity for all Americans.
