Not His Property, Not His Money: Halt the Imperial Arch
I am a voting constituent writing to demand immediate congressional intervention to halt President Trump’s bloated, vanity-driven decoration projects in our nation's capital—most notably the 250-foot triumphal arch recently pushed through by his handpicked Commission of Fine Arts.
This unnecessary monument has ballooned into a $100 million aesthetic disaster. The design has been stacked with exorbitant, taxpayer-funded modifications, including an internal gallery, multiple event spaces, and five commercial elevators. This is not the President's private resort; Washington, D.C. is public land, and the federal treasury is not his personal piggy bank.
To proceed with these gaudy renovations, the ballroom, and multi-million-dollar installations on historic federal parkland—overwhelmingly opposed by 99.5% of public feedback—is an insult to American taxpayers. This project defaces historic sightlines and abuses public funding for an individual's ego.
Congress must assert its power over federal spending and public property. I urge you to defund and permanently block the ballroom, the arch, and all associated vanity decoration projects. Stop this egregious misuse of public resources.
