Matt Gaetz's nomination as Attorney General is deeply concerning and poses a grave threat to the integrity of the Department of Justice. As someone who was himself the subject of a DOJ investigation into allegations of sex trafficking a minor, Gaetz has a clear conflict of interest that should disqualify him from leading the agency tasked with upholding the law impartially. His antipathy towards career DOJ officials and special counsels who investigated Donald Trump suggests he would seek to purge the department of experienced public servants in favor of partisan loyalists. This would severely undermine the DOJ's independence and nonpartisan mission. There are also credible allegations that Gaetz engaged in other unethical behavior unbecoming of the nation's top law enforcement officer. Appointing him would irreparably damage public trust in an institution meant to stand above politics and personal vendettas. Gaetz simply lacks the integrity, impartiality, and qualifications required for such a vital role overseeing federal law enforcement and prosecution. His confirmation would mark a degradation of the Justice Department and the rule of law itself. I urge you to vigorously oppose this reckless nomination in order to preserve the DOJ's ability to enforce the law fairly and judiciously for all Americans.
