Demand oversight on inhumane detention of migrant families

To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Moolenaar

From: A constituent in Rockford, MI

June 23

Congressional oversight is critical to upholding democratic principles and ensuring humane treatment for detained families and children. The disturbing testimonies from legal monitors visiting detention centers reveal unacceptable conditions - adults fighting over limited water supplies, children suffering medical neglect, and psychological trauma from the arrest process itself. As representatives entrusted to safeguard the rights of all people, it is imperative that you exercise robust oversight to improve standards at these facilities. Indefinite family detention should not be permitted, as it violates the protections established under the Flores Settlement Agreement. I urge you to demand transparency, investigate these reports thoroughly, and take decisive action to prevent any further erosion of human rights or due process for immigrants in federal custody. The moral standing of our nation is at stake.
