An Open Letter

To: Sen. Blackburn, Rep. Cohen, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Memphis, TN

June 13

Demand that Secretary of Defense Hegseth explain what happened to the portrait of General Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. General James' portrait has been taken down from the Air Force Art Gallery in the Pentagon. This is according to a June 6, 2026 article in The Atlantic entitled "Being Black in Pete Hegseth's Military." General James was the first Black American in the history of the U.S. military to reach the rank of four-star general. He deserves the utmost respect.
