Support VISIBLE ACT for transparent ICE operations

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Clarke

From: A verified voter in Brooklyn, NY

July 8

The VISIBLE ACT is a crucial step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in federal law enforcement operations. By requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to visibly display their credentials and agency affiliation during civil immigration enforcement actions, this legislation aims to protect the rights of individuals and communities and prevent impersonators from attacking our communities. Reports of ICE agents concealing their identities and posing as other entities have eroded public trust and undermined the integrity of these operations. Implementing visible identification measures will help restore confidence in the process, prevent potential abuse or misconduct, and deter impersonators from exploiting vulnerable populations. It is imperative that we uphold the values of due process and civil liberties, especially when dealing with vulnerable populations. I urge you to co-sponsor and support the VISIBLE ACT to promote greater transparency, safeguard the fundamental rights of all individuals, and protect our communities from imposters misrepresenting law enforcement.
