Trump’s Own Intel Director Resigned Today. Iran Posed No Imminent Threat

March 18
On March 17, 2026, Trump’s own counterterrorism director resigned over the war in Iran. Joe Kent, an 11-combat-deployment Green Beret and Gold Star husband, said Iran “posed no imminent threat” and the war was started under false pretenses. The Pentagon told Congress the same thing on March 1. DNI Gabbard testified under oath that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon. Trump said he didn’t care, then cut her out of all Iran discussions. We have seen this script before. Iraq cost $2.1 trillion and 4,493 American lives. No weapons of mass destruction were ever found.
This war has cost $16.5 billion in 12 days. Thirteen Americans are dead. Over 1,200 Iranian civilians have been killed, including children at a girls’ school. Fifty-nine percent of Americans opposed these strikes from day one. There was no AUMF. Meanwhile, 27 million Americans are uninsured, ACA premiums more than doubled for 22 million people on January 1st, and six days of this war already exceeded the entire annual CDC budget.
Co-sponsor a war powers resolution requiring congressional authorization before this goes further. Demand a public accounting of the intelligence used to justify these strikes. The people who sent us to Iraq are using the same playbook. The cost of staying silent is not abstract anymore.
