Oppose H.B. 2616 and H.B. 2617 Targeting Transgender Students

To: Rep. Walberg, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

April 29

Vote no on H.B. 2616 and H.B. 2617. You were sent to represent the will of the people, not spread hate against transgender kids. These bills don't protect anyone. They target vulnerable students for harassment and exclusion. H.B. 2616 forces schools to out trans students to their parents before allowing them to use appropriate restrooms or be called by their correct name, putting kids at risk at home and in school. H.B. 2617 bans teaching anything that acknowledges trans or nonbinary people exist, erasing an entire group of students from the classroom. Transgender students deserve safety and dignity at school like anyone else. They're not a political agenda. They're real kids trying to learn and grow. Schools have a legal and moral duty to keep all students safe, and this legislation fails that test completely. Our nation faces serious challenges that demand your attention. Instead, House Republicans are wasting time on cruel bills that make children's lives harder. This is not what you were elected to do. Stand with all students and oppose this legislation.
