TL;DR: Jeffries and Schumer must go.
This is a new era in America. To allow a return to business as usual after this election is malpractice and a betrayal of the constituents who gave you a mandate for change. There is no “normal” left to return to. This is Reconstruction 2.0. This is the opportunity for a Modern New Deal. There is no room for error.
As President Obama said in his election night statement, “the American people….want leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face.” The last time Democrats were presented with an actionable plan it was from Elizabeth Warren in 2019. We. Want. A. Plan. And we want it from leaders we believe in. Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer are not those leaders.
Jeffries and Schumer do not represent the voices of the American people that have flipped this country blue. Their speeches after the midterm victories were a dark cloud over what had been a jubilant day. They are unpopular and out of touch with the electorate. A recent NBC poll has Jeffries’ approval at 18% and Schumer’s approval at 13%. They are liabilities on the campaign trail. They are charmless and uninspiring in interviews. They are opposed by the most dedicated and effective politicians, organizers, and activists in the 2026 cycle. Now is the time for generational, inspirational leaders that can effectively communicate and deliver transformative results the American people can see and feel. These two aren’t it.
We cannot afford a status quo Congress. Democrats will never win again if we elect Congressional leadership less popular than the politicians we just voted out.
If Jeffries and Schumer will not step aside, you must push them aside. We cannot squander this once-in-a-lifetime momentum by defaulting back to the same party structure that resulted in a second Trump administration and failed to adequately defend against it. You owe it to all of us to take a stand and vote for new leadership in the House and Senate that is equipped to meet this moment.
We don’t want 2020.
We don’t want 2008.
We want something entirely new, different, and lasting.
