An Open Letter

To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Stabenow, Rep. Moolenaar

From: A constituent in Caledonia, MI

June 9

I am writing to express my concern about the growing trend of corporations buying single-family homes, including fixer-uppers. This practice is making it increasingly difficult for individual buyers, especially young families and adults, to compete in the housing market. Corporate buyers often have greater financial resources, allowing them to outbid individuals and drive up prices. This reduces housing affordability and limits opportunities for first-time homebuyers. Young adults, already burdened by student loan debt, inflation, and stagnant wages, are particularly affected by this trend. Many are unable to save for a down payment or compete with cash offers from corporations. I urge you to support policies that prioritize individual homeownership and discourage large-scale corporate purchases of single-family homes. This could include measures to limit corporate ownership of residential properties, provide tax incentives for first-time buyers, and increase the supply of affordable housing. Thank you for your time and consideration.
