Reject the TotalEnergies Deal and Protect Offshore Wind Development

To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick, Rep. Kelly

From: A constituent in Butler, PA

March 24

Stop the Interior Department's deal to pay TotalEnergies $1 billion to abandon offshore wind leases. This scheme uses taxpayer money to kill clean energy projects while forcing a foreign company to invest in fossil fuels instead. The Attentive Energy project alone would have generated 3 gigawatts of power for states that now have no easy way to replace that capacity. Meanwhile, we're paying a French company to walk away and build another LNG export terminal that will expose American families to more price shocks. Oil and gas prices are spiking right now because of international markets, yet this administration claims more fossil fuel exports will lower our costs. That's backwards. This isn't about subsidies or affordability. The wind companies already paid the government for these lease sites. Now Interior is spending $1 billion to undo that and eliminate offshore wind development entirely. TotalEnergies is even agreeing never to develop offshore wind in America again as part of this deal. Block this agreement. Offshore wind is American energy that creates American jobs and stabilizes our power costs. Don't let the administration pay foreign companies to abandon projects we need.
