Reject the MAMDANI Act! Don’t Deport People for Their Beliefs!

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Rep. Mannion, Sen. Schumer

From: A verified voter in Fayetteville, NY

April 28

H.R. 8387, the “MAMDANI Act,” proposes a radical and unconstitutional expansion of immigration enforcement. It would allow the government to deport, deny entry to, or even strip citizenship from anyone who has ever been a member of, affiliated with, or advocated for a staggering array of political and religious beliefs, including socialism, communism, Marxism, and “Islamic fundamentalism.” This bill must be rejected because it directly attacks the most fundamental American freedoms: · It violates the First Amendment. The government cannot punish people for their political views or religious beliefs. Under this bill, simply possessing a book or posting on social media in support of a disfavored idea could be grounds for deportation or losing one’s citizenship. · It targets religious and political minorities. The bill is explicitly designed to penalize Muslims and socialists, and its name is a personal attack on a sitting mayor. · It’s a license for political persecution. This legislation would give any future administration the power to weaponize immigration law against its critics, threatening the due process rights of all residents and citizens. H.R. 8387 is unconstitutional, unworkable, and fundamentally un-American. We urge you to oppose it in any form and uphold the principle that freedom of conscience is for everyone.
