Demand clean CR- no shutdown protect Feds and CDC

To: Rep. Loudermilk, Sen. Warnock, Sen. Ossoff

From: A constituent in Woodstock, GA

July 20

I am writing to you today as your constituent to urge you to act immediately to pass a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown. Congress must work across the aisle—Democrats and Republicans together—to maintain current funding levels and keep the government open while long-term budget negotiations continue. Government shutdowns are self-inflicted crises that harm our communities, disrupt critical public services, and waste taxpayer dollars. Specifically, I am demanding that you prioritize the following: • Protect Federal Workers & Halt All RIFs: Millions of federal employees and contractors keep our country running. Forcing them to work without pay creates severe financial hardship—living without a paycheck, even temporarily, is hard and expensive. Furthermore, there must be no more Reductions in Force (RIFs) or budget cuts. There have already been three rounds of RIFs, and the federal workforce cannot take any more. Gutting staff or slashing budgets weakens critical public services and creates severe instability. Civil servants should not be used as political leverage. • Protect the CDC and Public Health Infrastructure: We are currently facing roughly 100 active disease outbreaks across the nation. Shutting down or crippling agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) directly threatens our nation's health security, slows response times, and puts lives at risk. Public health funding must remain fully intact and operational. • Pass a Clean CR with Bipartisan Cooperation: The fundamental duty of Congress is to govern. Put partisan disputes aside and pass a clean funding extension at current levels until you figure out a long-term budget solution. If Congress fails to perform its basic duty to keep the government open, the consequences should fall on lawmakers, not hard-working citizens. If you cannot keep the government open, lawmakers should not receive their paychecks, and voters will hold you accountable at the ballot box. I expect you to stand up for your constituents, protect federal workers from pay disruption and further job cuts, safeguard public health, and vote for a clean CR immediately. Sincerely,
