Oppose the Stop the Sexualization of Children Act

To: Rep. DelBene, Pres. Trump, Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

March 18

Vote no on the Stop the Sexualization of Children Act. This bill is censorship disguised as child protection, and it would gut comprehensive health education in every school that receives federal funding. The bill bans any federally funded program from using materials involving "gender dysphoria or transgenderism" for anyone under 18. That's viewpoint discrimination, plain and simple. It would erase LGBTQ students from curricula and block medically accurate information about gender identity. Schools would face impossible choices: teach comprehensive health education or lose federal funding. The bill's definition of "classic works" is absurdly narrow, limited to specific publications from 1990 and 2019. Contemporary literature addressing gender and sexuality would be banned, no matter how acclaimed or age-appropriate. Teachers would be forced to use criminal law definitions designed for child pornography cases to evaluate classroom materials. This is government overreach that threatens academic freedom and harms students who need accurate health information. No enforcement agency is even designated, leaving schools to guess at compliance while risking their funding. Vote no and protect students' right to comprehensive, inclusive education.
