I am writing as a constituent and as someone deeply concerned about recent actions by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that threaten fair housing protections for LGBTQ+ people and other marginalized communities.
I strongly support our state leadership in joining other states to challenge these actions. Federal efforts to weaken enforcement and threaten funding for state agencies create real risk for LGBTQ+ residents who already face significant barriers to housing access and homeownership.
With an LGBTQ+ homeownership rate significantly below the national average, any rollback of protections will only widen disparities and delay wealth-building opportunities for our community.
I respectfully urge you to:
• Support legal efforts to block these harmful federal actions
• Ensure state funding protects fair housing enforcement if federal dollars are reduced
• Strengthen and codify protections for sexual orientation and gender identity in housing
• Promote transparency and accountability in housing and lending practices
Housing is the foundation of economic stability and opportunity. Our state has long been a leader in protecting civil rights—now is the time to reinforce that commitment.
Thank you for your leadership and for standing with our local LGBTQ+ community.
