Defend the International Criminal Court
I am writing to express my strong opposition to any efforts by the United States government to undermine or sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Recent actions by the Trump administration to impose sanctions on the ICC and its officials for investigating alleged war crimes are deeply troubling and undermine global justice and accountability.
The ICC is a vital institution for investigating and prosecuting the gravest crimes, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, especially where domestic courts are unwilling or unable to act. Attempts to intimidate or obstruct the ICC threaten the pursuit of justice for victims worldwide and erode the rule of law.
I urge you to:
• Publicly oppose sanctions or other punitive measures against the ICC.
• Support the ICC’s independent mandate to investigate and prosecute international crimes.
• Affirm the United States’ commitment to upholding international justice and accountability.
The United States should stand with victims of war crimes and support the international institutions that seek justice on their behalf.
