Codify AI Guidelines for Military Use

To: Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey, Rep. Pressley

From: A constituent in Brighton, MA

March 19

I'm asking you to support legislation that establishes binding guidelines for artificial intelligence use in military operations. Right now, the Pentagon is deploying AI systems without clear legal guardrails, and that's dangerous. We need enforceable rules on when AI can be used in targeting decisions, what level of human oversight is required, and how these systems are tested before deployment. The technology is advancing faster than policy, and voluntary frameworks aren't enough. Other nations are racing ahead with military AI, but we shouldn't sacrifice accountability for speed. Codifying these standards protects service members who rely on these systems, prevents catastrophic errors from autonomous weapons, and sets a precedent for responsible AI development globally. This isn't about blocking innovation. It's about making sure we have legal structures in place before AI makes life-or-death decisions on the battlefield.
