The mass termination of thousands of federal employees across numerous agencies is deeply concerning. These widespread job losses not only upend the lives of hard-working public servants, but also disrupt critical government functions that protect the public and provide essential services. The arbitrary dismissal of probationary workers, regardless of their performance or experience, is shortsighted and fails to recognize their valuable contributions. From safeguarding our environment through the EPA, to supporting veterans at the VA, to overseeing food and drug safety at the FDA, these federal agencies play vital roles that impact all Americans. Slashing their workforces so drastically jeopardizes their ability to fulfill their congressionally-mandated duties effectively. We cannot allow budgetary decisions made without full consideration of their real-world impacts to undermine the government's capacity to serve the people. I urge you to reconsider these draconian cuts and reinstate the employees whose roles have been so abruptly terminated. Restoring these public sector jobs is crucial for maintaining government accountability, expertise, and continuity of operations for the benefit of our nation. While increasing efficiency is a reasonable goal, it cannot come at the expense of rendering agencies incapable of carrying out their core responsibilities to citizens. I hope you will act swiftly to reverse course and rebuild the federal workforce to properly address society's needs.
