I urge Congress to push for the immediate reinstatement of full sanctions on Russian oil and energy exports.
Russia continues to wage an unprovoked war in Ukraine while deepening military cooperation with Iran. Intelligence sharing and weapons collaboration between these regimes have contributed to attacks that have killed and injured American service members across the Middle East. Rewarding Moscow with sanctions relief sends exactly the wrong signal.
Allowing Russian oil back into global markets will not meaningfully solve supply constraints, but it will provide billions of dollars in additional revenue to the Kremlin; money that can be used to fund its war in Ukraine and expand cooperation with Iran and other hostile actors.
Sanctions remain one of the most effective tools the United States and its allies have to constrain Russia’s war machine. I encourage Congress to ensure that sanctions remain strong, coordinated with our allies, and fully enforced.
Reinstating full sanctions on Russian energy exports is necessary to protect U.S. interests, support Ukraine, and prevent further financing of regimes that threaten American lives and global security.
