Although some of my Congress people will say, what is going on with this administration is well beyond normal. U.S. citizens without criminal records are being harassed and detained by a poorly trained cohort that violates law. Undocumented immigrants are being abused and deported to countries other than their country of origin. Our long standing international allies are being bullied. Sovereign nations are being treated as ripe for the taking. In the meantime, many in Congress are either giving this administration a pass because they believe they are fulfilling campaign promises and working for the betterment of our nation OR accepting this quietly. I respectfully ask: WHY? The rules of diplomacy have been jettisoned. The U.N. is being dismissed just as the President attempts to create a parallel organization Board of Peace that includes Vladimir Putin. The President observes no rules of propriety when dealing with world leaders, national leaders, or common people. Compassion and the rule of law are no longer tenets of our government. Congress has ignores its role in our democracy for far too long. I urge you to use all the tools at your disposal to bring restraint and sanity back into our government. Defund illogical, ineffective, and cruel initiatives like ICE. Use the power of legislation to curb the President’s excesses. Act to defend the ideals upon our Nation was created. The time is now.
