I am writing to you with urgency and deep concern after seeing rhetoric that should alarm every person entrusted with public office.
A recent public statement attributed to Donald J. Trump uses language that appears to threaten extreme military escalation and invokes harm in a way that is reckless, dehumanizing, and incompatible with both international law and the moral responsibilities of leadership. Words like these are not harmless. They shape decisions, embolden actions, and move us closer to outcomes that cannot be undone.
This is not about party affiliation. This is about the line we do not cross.
Leadership matters because it shapes whether we move toward healing or toward harm.
When rhetoric suggests disregard for human life or flirts with actions that could constitute war crimes, it demands a clear and unified response. Silence or minimization in moments like this is not neutrality. It is a failure to uphold the responsibility entrusted to you.
I am asking you, and all of your colleagues regardless of party, to take a firm and principled stand. Our country cannot afford leadership that undermines the rule of law, destabilizes global trust, or places lives at risk through reckless escalation. The preservation of our democracy, our moral standing, and our future requires courage in moments exactly like this.
This is a time to demonstrate what your oath of office truly means. To affirm, through both words and actions, that our nation is guided by law, by accountability, and by a commitment to human dignity.
History will remember who chose to speak clearly, act responsibly, and protect what is good in this country.
