Demand Accountability for Amy Acton's Anti-Trans Stance

To: Rep. Huizenga, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI

July 19

Amy Acton called transgender girls "boys" and pledged to enforce Ohio's sports ban. A Democratic candidate does not get a free pass on transphobia just because they have a D next to their name. Publicly call on Acton to retract her comments and make clear the party does not treat trans kids as acceptable political collateral. What the Ohio Democratic Party did next is documented at https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/ohio-dem-party-has-banned-criticism — when the ODP Progressive Caucus published a statement criticizing Acton's comments, the party pressured them to delete it. The ODP moved faster to suppress internal dissent than to ask its own nominee to stop embracing anti-trans politics. That's a deliberate choice, and LGBTQ+ Ohioans are watching. If Acton wins by running on trans exclusion, it teaches every Democrat in the country that abandoning trans people is the path to victory. We've watched that lesson hollow out protections for a generation in the UK under Labour. This party cannot build a coalition by sacrificing its most vulnerable members.
