Oppose or amend flawed bills like SB 20!

To: Sen. Warnock, Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Carter

From: A constituent in Hinesville, GA

May 2, 2025

Texas SB 20 is just one of many flawed bills that are flooding the nation. I agree with stopping the proliferation of AI generated CSEM and CSAM. The problem lies with the rest of the bill's text outlawing cartoons, books, movies, television programs, and text and fictional depictions of characters The problem lies with the rest of the bill's text outlawing cartoons, books, movies, television programs, and other forms of expression that are lawful but awful speech. This is nothing short of an overreaching ban that doesn't stop the core issue at hand. Laws like these should be narrowly tailored to target the act of AI generated CSEM itself, not by dragging everything else along with it. AI generated CSEM relies on the photos of children that are available on social media and online search engines, and it's made with a process called 'scraping', which essentially has the AI take these photos without the knowledge of the people in them-- or their consent. Parents and kids should be protected from this practice by laws that regulate the AI itself, along with laws that keep their data and photos strictly private. Fictional depictions should not be subject to criminalization unless it is certain that a child was exploited or has their images used in the production of CSEM. All in all, this bill shows promise, but the language regarding cartoons and media that do not feature recognizable minors should be scrapped. Thank you. All in all, these bills show promise, but the language regarding cartoons and media that do not feature recognizable minors should be scrapped.
