Ogles Comments Unacceptable

To: Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Kelly, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Meadville, PA

January 7

I’m writing as a constituent to urge you to take immediate action in response to Rep. Andy Ogles’ inflammatory comments describing the United States as the “dominant predator” of the Western Hemisphere and his call to invade Greenland. Rhetoric that frames U.S. power in terms of predation and treats military invasion as a legitimate policy option undermines our democratic values, damages our alliances, and endangers global stability. Members of Congress hold positions of public trust. When a sitting Member publicly promotes the idea of invading territory associated with a partner nation and characterizes the United States in language that glorifies domination, it is not merely “strong talk.” It signals contempt for the rule of law, for diplomacy, and for the basic principles of sovereignty and self-determination that the United States claims to defend. This kind of language also puts service members, diplomats, and ordinary Americans at risk by normalizing reckless escalation and inviting retaliation, whether diplomatic, economic, or worse. It can fuel anti-American sentiment abroad and erode the credibility of the United States when we advocate for peaceful conflict resolution. Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to protect the integrity of its institution. The Constitution empowers the House to discipline its Members, including expulsion, when conduct is incompatible with the duties of office. I urge you to: 1. Publicly condemn Rep. Ogles’ remarks and reject any calls for military invasion as a tool of policy. 2. Support an ethics inquiry into whether these statements violate standards of conduct and bring disrepute upon the House. 3. If warranted by the findings, support expulsion proceedings to affirm that Congress will not tolerate rhetoric that promotes aggression and dehumanizing “predator” ideology. This is a moment for moral clarity. The United States should lead through alliances, law, and diplomacy—not through threats of conquest. Please let me know what specific steps you will take to ensure accountability.
