Subject: Demand for Legislation Requiring Transparency and Accountability from ICE Agents
I’m writing as your constituent to express deep concern about recent reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are conducting enforcement actions while wearing unmarked uniforms, covering their faces, and refusing to identify themselves.
This is unacceptable in a country that values due process, transparency, and the rule of law.
These practices create an alarming risk of impersonation, wrongful detention, and abuse. There is nothing to stop a group of individuals from posing as ICE agents, kidnapping or intimidating people, and operating with impunity — especially in immigrant communities where fear and language barriers already make people vulnerable.
I urge you to:
• Support or introduce legislation that requires all ICE agents to wear visible identification and provide credentials during enforcement actions.
• Pass laws to prohibit civil immigration arrests in or around courthouses without a judicial warrant.
• Use your oversight authority to hold hearings and subpoena ICE leadership for a full accounting of current enforcement practices.
• Condition ICE funding on adherence to basic accountability and civil rights standards, such as body camera use and public reporting requirements.
We cannot allow secretive, unaccountable federal policing tactics to become normalized — especially on U.S. soil, against civilians, and in the name of immigration enforcement.
Please act now to protect both public safety and constitutional rights
