Oppose Overreaching Laken Riley Act, Support Targeted Immigration Reform

To: Rep. Riley, Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer

From: A constituent in Ithaca, NY

January 10

I cannot support the Laken Riley Act as proposed. While addressing criminal action by undocumented immigrants is a valid goal, this legislation goes too far and would unreasonably harm many immigrants living and working in the United States. A much narrower bill specifically targeting criminal action by undocumented immigrants who are threats to public safety would be more appropriate. The current act's provisions are an overreach that could upend the lives of law-abiding immigrants and families. I urge you to oppose this act in its current form and work on a more targeted solution that protects both security and the rights of immigrants following the proper legal processes.
