Trump’s Tariffs & Greenland Rhetoric Hurting the U.S. Economy. Congress Act Now

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Casar

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

January 21

I am alarmed that President Trump is selling the economy as a triumph while his actions are destabilizing it and widening harm for everyday Americans. His tariff threats tied to Greenland and other trade disputes rattled markets and drew warnings from the IMF that a trade war could hurt global growth and trigger broader economic pain, not strength. At home, manufacturing jobs have fallen and higher tariffs have raised costs for businesses and consumers, slowing hiring and investment even as official growth figures mask deeper weaknesses and uncertainty facing workers and families. I urge you to push for strict oversight of trade and tariff policy, demand regular, transparent economic reporting from independent agencies, and use your power over funding to prevent further escalation of trade measures that undercut our economic stability. I also ask you to hold hearings with Treasury, Fed, and trade experts to assess real impacts on jobs, prices, and investment, and to advance legislation that protects American workers from policy-driven economic risk.
