Act to Protect the Federal Reserve

To: Sen. Collins

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

January 13

I am writing to urge you to join Senator Tom Tillis in speaking out and acting to defend the Federal Reserve’s independence and Chair Jerome Powell from political threats or intimidation. Specifically, join Senator Tillis in refusing to vote for Trump nominations to the Federal Reserve, until the politically motivated investigation of Powell is resolved.  An independent central bank is essential to financial stability, low inflation, credibility, and the rule of law.  Additionally, it is critical to block the Administration’s authoritarian actions. Your voice carries weight. Please stand with Senator Tillis and make clear that no administration—of any party—should pressure or punish the Fed for doing its job.
