Blood on the Ledger: Your Complicity in ICE’s Detention Camps
Your continued protection of the for-profit ICE detention system is a moral stain on this nation. A recent NPR review exposes what Congress has actively chosen to ignore: the complete collapse of the detainee grievance system and the deliberate gutting of internal oversight bodies.
A spineless Congress has handed thousands of vulnerable human beings to private contractors like CoreCivic and The GEO Group, who operate with deadly impunity. The result? At least 53 deaths. Medical neglect is rampant. One detainee with a brain tumor was left convulsing because his anti-seizure medication was five hours late, nearly drowning him in his cell's toilet.
Meanwhile, 71% of grievances regarding toxic mold, contaminated food, and staff abuse are callously rejected or ignored entirely. By allowing these private prisons to hide their grievance data from public scrutiny, you are intentionally shielding human rights violators.
Get loud about it. Reinstate independent oversight, demand transparency, and end this fatal privatization of human suffering.
