Oppose the Trump Commemorative Gold Coin and Focus on Real Priorities

To: Sen. Murray, Pres. Trump, Sen. Cantwell, Rep. DelBene

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

March 19

Vote against any funding or authorization for the proposed 24-carat gold Trump commemorative coin. The Commission of Fine Arts just voted to create a three-inch gold coin featuring President Trump, which the Treasury plans to sell for several thousand dollars. This is a vanity project, not a priority that helps Americans. The independent Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee already opposed this plan. Their acting chairman, Donald Scarinci, said it plainly: "Only those nations ruled by kings or dictators display the image of their sitting ruler on the coins of the realm." The Treasury then deleted video footage of that meeting where members voiced objections. Americans need Congress focused on lowering costs, not manufacturing expensive gold souvenirs of the sitting president. The U.S. Mint should be producing currency that serves the public, not limited-edition collectibles designed to enrich Trump's image. This coin represents exactly the kind of self-serving distraction that wastes government resources while families struggle with real economic challenges. Block this project and redirect the Mint's attention to its actual mission.
