Deportation Rhetoric Toward U.S. Citizens

To: Sen. Schumer, Rep. Mannion, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Syracuse, NY

April 14

I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my alarm over recent public statements made by President Donald Trump suggesting that so-called “homegrowns” — American citizens — should be deported to El Salvador and imprisoned in foreign camps. This kind of rhetoric is not only unconstitutional but chillingly authoritarian. The idea of deporting U.S. citizens — particularly those whose only “crime” may be dissent or protest — strikes at the very heart of our nation’s founding principles. It is an affront to due process, citizenship rights, and the rule of law. I urge you to speak out clearly and forcefully against this dangerous narrative. Political leaders cannot remain silent while such openly fascist ideas gain traction in mainstream discourse. We need you to defend the Constitution and ensure that no citizen is threatened with exile or imprisonment based on their beliefs or perceived political affiliations. Please take immediate action by publicly denouncing this rhetoric and supporting legislation that protects the rights and liberties of all American citizens. Thank you for your time.
